Like Kenbu, shibu is a Japanese dancing art. Shi means fan, and Bu means dance, meaning that Shibu is a dance art that mainly uses fans, although weapons are also included in some of the later dances.

The dances within Shibu also tell stories. Although the fan was a common, everyday item for the Japanese, it held a position of importance in the general etiquette of being a Samurai. Rarely would a Samurai be seen without a fan. Shibu uses the fan to both emphasise and punctuate elements within the dance.
